Daily, Weekly, Monthly… How often is too often?

I often get asked how often to send a newsletter.

The short answer is… it depends.

Sending more often means your subscribers get more regular reminders of your existence. You have greater opportunity for them to get to know, like and trust you. There are more frequent opportunities to inform, educate and sell to your subscribers.

Sounds fabulous doesn’t it? But…

Manage your Online Property – aka Your Website

Your website is valuable property. And you should always know what is happening with your property.

If you owned an investment property you’d be able to choose between managing it yourself or having an expert property manager to do it for you. It’s the same with your website. You can manage it yourself or you can have an expert assistant or website company do it for you.

Facebook Changes

The people behind Facebook have been very busy. They continue to release new changes and I’ve noted a few of interest below.

Messages to your Fans

As of September 30th you’ll no longer be able to send an update to fans using Facebook Messages. This is because updates that go to Facebook Messages may end up unseen in the “Other” folder – this is very true, so was a very unused and ineffective feature. Your page wall is still the best place to share and to interact with your fans.

Give a Little of YOU

All my email newsletter subscriptions go into a folder on my computer automatically. I do this to save myself from distraction, and I look through this folder every couple of days.

I scan, I delete and I read that which pops out at me! I am looking for emails that are interesting, relevant OR that come from a sender who I feel a personal connection with.

Go ahead and take a look at your inbox. Which commercial emails will get your attention? Take note of what gets your attention and why!

It’s time to get the focus back on writing and creating for humans. You know, those people who you want to spend money with you.

Sharing made Easy

So you want to share a link on social media, but you’re not sure the best way to do it? Or when you’ve shared a link it’s so long that it makes your status update look ugly (and uses up precious space).

There is an easier way. I recommend you shorten the link so it takes up less space in your update and makes it easier for others to click on it.

There are two services I personally use, both of which are completely free, that you also could use to create these short links.

Website Health Check

Website Health CheckWhen was the last time you conducted a health check on your website?

Grab a coffee, open your website and start reading. Go page by page and read what your website has to say.

Most business owners have neglected pages on their website for weeks, months or even years. You may find broken links, out of date content, missing information and opportunities for improvement.

What’s a good email open rate?

Email Marketing Open RatesIn Australia the average open rate for email marketing, across all industries is consistently around 22%. Averages in the US and other countries are likely to be similar. Seems low, but compared to other marketing mediums it’s a good result.

Personally I like to have clients aim for an open rate of 28-35% which is possible with a targeted list and good emails!
