Three tips for Email Marketing Success

email marketing tipsIf you publish (or are thinking about publishing) a regular email newsletter then it’s more than likely important to you that you are able to maximise it’s effectiveness and return on investment (ROI). I’m sure you would like to be consistently receiving positive feedback, enquiries and conversions from your email newsletter. And all of those results are most definately achievable.

Here at Web Chameleon, we  often get really positive feedback about the Web Chameleon email newsletter. Recipients generally tell me they enjoy reading it and get great value from my articles, or they comment on something I’ve said in a recent edition. So I’m pretty happy with the results and yes, I have also seen an increase in enquiries and sales that I can directly attribute to my email newsletter marketing!

The truth is that one of the top reasons why an email newsletter works is because most people need to get to know, like and trust you before they’ll be ready to hand over their money and buy from you. A regular email newsletter gives you an easy way of keeping in touch and building the trust and rapport to improve conversion and sales over time.

Here are 3 secrets to newsletter publishing that I have learnt from my own and my client’s experiences over the last few years. Please don’t brush them off as too simple as the reality is after working with hundreds of businesses on their email marketing these are truly the basics and the pieces of the puzzle that often times get neglected. The third tip allows you to maximise your return by allowing your email newsletter content to serve multiple purposes.

1. Publish consistently.

I initially published my newsletter on a not-so-regular basis because other commitments always got in the way. I then went to a regular monthly publication and now I publish without fail every two weeks. The results have easily proved to me the worth of consistency.

And I have seen the same with clients who see their results increase quickly once they move to a consistent schedule. Consistency means scheduling the publication date in advance. For example you would commit to publishing your email newsletter on the 1st Wednesday of every month or the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. The important part of this is that you commit to the consistency.

2. Set aside time to write and compile your newsletter.

To meet the schedule consistency I block out time in my diary to put my newsletter together. Normally this is the day before however, sometimes this time slot gets moved and often it ends up being on the morning or afternoon of the day it’s due to go out! That’s ok as long as you’re committed to meeting the deadline.

If you can be organised in advance all the better so you can have your email ready and scheduled in advance. That way you could be out having coffee with a client whilst your email newsletter is delivered to your subscribers – nice!.

Make it a priority and a ‘must happen’ in your diary.

3. Repackage and re-purpose your articles.

If you are putting content together for an email newsletter then consider how you can maximise the effectiveness of that same content. Perhaps you could use that same content in other marketing and therefore leverage both your time and your content. Some ideas are to submit it to article directories, put it on your website or blog, use it as a base for press releases, or compile several articles into a report or ebook (you could even use this as an incentive for new subscribers to your newsletter).

An email newsletter can make your marketing so much easier. Almost without fail, each time I publish the Web Chameleon newsletter I will hear back from subscribers ready to work with me or purchase a product or service from us. I haven’t had to convince them or ’sell’ to them. They’ve come to know, like and trust me over time through the medium of my newsletter, so that now they are ready to find out how they can work with me.

Easy… I wish you all the best with your email newsletter marketing :)

  • Hi Belinda,

thanks for this information. I seem to get more value from hearing about what other people actually do, as opposed to what someone suggests may work. I will attempt to take these tips on board.

Thanks for your comment Sue. I agree that learning from other people who have experienced success or who share the mistakes they’ve made with you so you can learn from them, is is often a great way to learn. Plus it’s more interesting than just reading the theory of what to do! Cheers ..Belinda

    Hi Belinda,

Repackaging & repurposing your articles is a great idea to get extra leverage from your articles.

Variations of your article can be FAQ, Step By Step, The Checklist or Profession related to name just a few.

Another idea is to turn your article into a video which can then be uploaded to video sites like YouTube,MetaCafe & Revver. Make sure you include your website url in your video to attract visitors to your website.

With so many software applications online this is easier than you may think.
