The inboxes of our newsletter subscribers (and our own!) are getting fuller every day. Subscribers are getting bored as they see more of the same old content hitting their inboxes, or even worse, irrelevant content!
It’s becoming harder to get and to keep attention.
So, if you produce an email newsletter then today is the day to review what’s working and what you need to change.
Don’t publish a newsletter but would like to? Then read this for ideas on what to keep in mind when implementing a newsletter for your business.
For those already publishing, here’s what I suggest:
Pretend you are a subscriber and not the editor of your newsletter. Now, open your 4 most recent newsletters, one at a time and answer these questions truthfully:
- What is the first impression your newsletter gives?
- If this was the first newsletter ever received from the company what would your reaction be?
- Does it present professionally?
- Is it easy to read?
- Is it too long?
- Is it relevant?
- How could it be improved?
Also look at how easy it is for people to unsubscribe. Believe me, you want it to be easy if you don’t want to annoy your subscribers.
Taking the time to review and to make improvements will go a long way to ensuring your newsletter stays fresh and delivers what your subscribers want.
