The people behind Facebook have been very busy. They continue to release new changes and I’ve noted a few of interest below.
Messages to your Fans
As of September 30th you’ll no longer be able to send an update to fans using Facebook Messages. This is because updates that go to Facebook Messages may end up unseen in the “Other” folder – this is very true, so was a very unused and ineffective feature. Your page wall is still the best place to share and to interact with your fans.
Subscribe to personal profiles
The new Facebook Subscribe button is a feature on your personal profile which allows other users to subscribe to your public updates. If you decide to allow subscribers then any post you mark as public will now been seen in the news feed of your subscribers. This is suited if you are a public figure. Easier sharing across pages
If you are the admin of multiple pages you can now share content more easily to one of your pages. When you click on Share you’ll see the drop down options where you can change which page you want to share the content to. I really like this change!
See number of Shares
You can now see how many times a piece of content has been shared and by whom. This helps you to see what is of interest and ‘shareable’.
Reminder re Privacy Settings
This is not new but something I get asked a lot about. If you are concerned about who can see your updates and photo’s by default you need to check your privacy settings default to ‘Friends Only’. Go to Account (top right) – Privacy Settings – set this to ‘Friends Only’. You can still share individual content publicly if you wish but this sets your default for all content.
I hope this tip is helpful! Do come join Web Chameleon on Facebook or leave a comment below.

You can also make updates and photos viewable only to yourself until you tag someone. It actually made things convenient for me when I was working a small group project and didn’t want anyone else to see it. Only the members of the same group could and I’d only tag them if I knew for sure they had something to add.
